Sheldon Lavin is the CEO of OSI Group. The Aurora, Illinois-base company is one of the largest meat and food processing companies in the world.Lavin initially worked as a company consultant for the previous owners, The Kolchowsky Brothers. Once they neared retirement, they brought in Sheldon Lavin as a partner. A few years later, the company was brought outright by Lavin.Since his 100% outright ownership of the company, OSI Group has grown exponentially and is currently ranked #58 on Forbes List of the Richest Privately Owned Companies. There are 60 manufacturing companies in 60 different countries. The company also employs over 20,000 people worldwide.
While OSI Group started out working almost exclusively with Ray Krok and the McDonald’s organization, the Group now manufactures chicken, fish, vegetables, private-label products and food service items. He also owns OSI Industries, OSI International, OSI International Inc., Vista Processed Foods and OSI Group Company.Lavin was born in Illinois in 1932. He attended both the University of Illinois and Northwestern University. He also received a business degree from Roosevelt University. His studies in accounting and finance helped in learn more about how to run businesses.
During his tenure at OSI Group, he has received numerous awards. In 2016, he received a humanitarian award from India. Sheldon Lavin has always focused on the overall welfare of his employees.Sheldon Lavin has also been very environmentally conscious. He says he is hoping other entrepreneurs follow his lead and focus more on ways to protect the environment. Lavin also gives back to the community. He is involved with a number of global charities. The Ronald McDonald House has given millions of dollars to children suffering from terminal illnesses. He and his wife have also for a number of other organizations, including The Sheba Foundation, which he serves as president.
