PETALING JAYA: Malaysia are assured of a berth in the men’s doubles final at the Indonesia Masters after Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik and Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun stormed into the semi-finals today.
A spot in the final is assured as the two Malaysian pairs have been drawn to play each other at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta tomorrow.
Wei Chong-Kai Wun booked their berth first after defeating compatriots Yap Roy King-Wan Arif Wan Junaidi 21-15, 21-15 in 32 minutes.
Later, world No 5 pair Aaron-Wooi Yik faced stiff resistance before overcoming the eighth-ranked South Koreans Kang Min Hyuk-Kim Won Ho 21-19, 21-15 in 40 minutes.
It was a tight match with a point-for-point exchange, with both pairs avoiding unforced errors.
Only three of the seven Malaysian pairs who featured in the quarter-finals are through to the semi-finals.
Earlier today, Pearly Tan-M Thinaah cruised into the women’s doubles semi-finals after beating the Japanese pair of Yuki Fukushima-Mayu Matsumoto 21-16, 21-15.
