‘JUNIORS’ WEI CHONG-KAI WUN STUN AARON-WOOI YIK IN STRAIGHT GAMES TO ENTER FINAL

PETALING JAYA: National men’s doubles shuttlers Man Wei Chong-Tee Kai Wun shocked their seniors Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik to cruise into the Indonesia Masters final, becoming the first Malaysian pair to do so since the tournament’s inception in 2010.

Wei Chong-Kai Wun, ranked world No 13, defeated the world No 5 pair 21-18, 21-15 in just 30 minutes at the Istora Senayan in Jakarta.

They gave their older and more experienced compatriots very little chance to fight back with their accurate placements and smashes.

It was the fourth time that the pairs have met, with both winning twice.

In the final tomorrow, Wei Chong-Kai Wun will meet 4th ranked Indonesian pair Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Rian Ardianto, who defeated Thai duo Kittinupong Kedren-Dechapol Puavaranukroh 21-14, 24-22 in the other semi-final.

They have met three times, with the Indonesians winning all the encounters.

In their last encounter at the same tournament, Wei Chong-Kai Wun lost to Fajar-Rian Ardianto in straight games in the quarter-finals.

The two pairs will be vying for the top prize of US$37,525 (RM164,759), with the runners-up taking home US$18,050 (RM79,251).
