Celtic are still on the hunt for a new permanent manager after Brendan Rodgers shockingly resigned last week.
In the meantime, the club have called upon 73-year-old Martin O’Neill, and it’s fair to say that the former Republic of Ireland manager has had a solid life on his return to Parkhead.
He beat Falkirk at home on his debut before beating Rangers in the Old Firm 3-1 at Hampden Park to secure a spot in the Scottish League Cup Final next month.
It’s been a tumultuous time at the club, with the club’s largest shareholder, Dermot Desmond, releasing a rare statement chastising Rodgers for the way in which he left the club and with many supporters calling for the board to resign as they feel the path the club is heading down is not good.
That, on top of Hearts still leading the Scottish Premiership, looking to be the first side in over 40 years not called Celtic or Rangers to win the league title, and well, you get a club in a crisis right now. One celebrity fan who has stepped up and said he’ll invest in the club is one Snoop Dogg.
The rapper is a huge sports fan and has followed Celtic for a long time. Speaking to the Daily Record, he gave his two cents on how he would help the club:
‘I don’t know about the coach, but as an investor, sure. Investing in Celtic is something I have talked about in the past, and if the opportunity was right, I would be down for it.
‘Celtic is a huge club and fans want to see the best players playing in this great stadium. All the owners have got to do is ask.’
It wasn’t just in the boardroom that the rapper spoke about. He also gave his props to one Martin O’Neill, as well as endorsing a recently sacked Premier League manager to get the full-time role at Celtic Park.
‘You got to give Martin O’Neill big respect, he is coming back when we need him. I think you got to bring Ange back, the club are gonna do what they are gonna do, but the fans would love to see him back.’
O’Neill has been very clear that he is only back in management as a stopgap between Rodgers and the next permanent manager, with no views as of yet to take the job permanently. Meanwhile, Postecoglou is off the back of a turbulent time at Nottingham Forest, where he was sacked after just 39 days in charge.
It’s unclear as of now which direction The Bhoys are heading in their hunt for a new manager, but they have to try close the nine point gap they currently have on Hearts (with a game in hand) while also having to prepare for a Scottish League Cup Final next month, where they’ll take to Hampden Park once again, this time to face St. Mirren.
