Max Verstappen has revealed that he might be ready to walk out of Formula One next year rather than chase a record number of world titles.
The Dutchman was speaking ahead of Sunday's world championship decider in Abu Dhabi.
Verstappen is chasing Britain's Lando Norris, who holds a 12-point advantage over him. This means Norris need only finish third to be assured of the title. The three-way fight includes Norris’s McLaren team-mate Piastri, who is 16 points off the lead.
Talking of his future, Verstappen, 28, told Daily Mail Sport in the paddock in Yas Marina: 'For now I go on. But let’s see how things go for next year. If it’s fun, I’ll go on but let’s think about it.
'I’ll review it throughout the year. It looks good but it’s impossible to say.'
Norris, meanwhile, insisted he would not ask Piastri to hand him the title this weekend.
The three protagonists sat on the press conference stage together ahead of the 57-lap race, with a slightly nervous Norris saying: ‘I guess in terms of position, of course, I have the most to lose because I am the one at the top.
'But I don't want Oscar to move over. It has not been discussed and shouldn't be.
'If Oscar wants to do that, I would not mind. But I shall not ask for it. It is not something for me to demand or that I would want.'
