WWE FANS HAIL AAA AS 'BEST WRESTLING SHOW'

WrestleMania 42 is just days away, but WWE viewers have been raving about another show most fans haven’t seen.

As well as wrestling juggernauts Raw and SmackDown, the company also puts out the likes of NXT (focused on the stars of the future), and a Mexico-based promotion after acquiring iconic Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide brand in 2025.

After a few specials last year, the legendary promotion was relaunched properly in January with its own weekly one-hour show airing on YouTube outside Mexico with Hall of Famer The Undertaker leading the creative charge.

For weeks now, viewers have been delighted by the fast-paced action with a colourful cast of characters, but Saturday’s episode has really captured the imagination.

As well as an intense pull-apart brawl between El Grande Americano and the Original El Grande Americano, there was the surprise debut of La Catalina from rival company CMLL, and two standout matches.

Original El Grande overcame Octagon Jr. in a fun sprint, followed by a blockbuster main event as Raw star Penta successfully defended his Intercontinental Championship against El Hijo del Vikingo.

Over the weekend, fans have been going wild and urging people to jump on the AAA bandwagon.

Plenty of viewers have been hailing the show ‘the best wrestling promotion right now’, and praising Undertaker’s work behind the scenes.

‘It feels insane that this is a WWE produced show booked by The Undertaker but it is and it’s the company’s best kept “secret,”‘ wrote @collixioncowboy on X.

Others added that the retired world champion has the ‘magic’ touch, describing AAA’s Saturday broadcasts as ‘the best wrestling show of the week, every week’.

Fan @JonaldBarley said: ‘AAA is one of the best wrestling shows around right now, specifically because Undertaker is doing all the booking. These are free on YouTube every Saturday. Do yourself a favor and do not overlook them.’

While @TheMG0MEZ wrote: ‘This may have been the best episode of #AAA under WWE yet. This entire show was fire. This is wrestling, language and borders be damned! Gracia @luchalibreaaa.’

AAA is becoming wrestling’s worst kept secret.

Of course, the iconic promotion has decades of experience and name value behind it, but WWE’s version is still relatively new, particularly with The Undertaker at the helm.

Like most fans, I was surprised to hear that the Dead Man was leading the brand’s creative alongside Konan and Jeremy Borash, but it’s clearly working.

I’ve been keeping an eye on AAA the last couple of months, and it’s an absolute breeze to watch.

Production is great, the commentary (particularly JBL) is top notch, the storylines are engaging even with the language barrier, and you’re guaranteed a couple of good-to-great matches every week.

No, it doesn’t necessarily have the mainstream names of Raw and SmackDown, but Undertaker and the team are building something special in a similar way to how Triple H did with the black and gold era of NXT.

As history almost repeats itself, some fans are calling for the Dead Man to take over WWE, but I don’t think that’s a serious consideration.

Despite recent missteps like Pat McAfee and Jelly Roll’s insertion into the Randy Orton/Cody Rhodes feud (a decision which reportedly goes above his head), Triple H is still doing well in charge of Raw and SmackDown.

However, WWE in in the inviable position of providing fans with its own alternative, and it’s a win for everyone.

Meanwhile, fans also singled out the El Grande Americano feud – set to culminate in a Mask vs Mask match on May 30 – as a highlight of the shows, and the way it’s connecting with fans in Mexico.

‘Only thing hotter than OG El Grande Americano vs El Grande Americano might just be Oba/Brock. That crowd was insane for that segment,’ pointed out @AShowQuan.

MMA and wrestling reporter Ariel Helwani enthused: ‘This is the best impromptu wrestling brawl I’ve seen in years, and very possibly the best angle in wrestling right now. Just listen to the crowd. Unbelievable. Wrestling should be fun!’

Fans described their ringside scrap on this week’s show as ‘the best wrestling brawl’ in a decade, with the clip going viral on social media over the weekend.

Undertaker previously opened up about his creative role in AAA, and explained that his ‘vision is to almost take a step back to step forward’.

‘I’m really high on the physicality and the actual in-ring stuff and things making sense, which is kind of difficult from where I’ve come from and then working with AAA,’ he told Cody Rhodes on his What Do You Want To Talk About? podcast.

‘If I can take the best of Lucha Libre and the best of what I know and I can mold them together, I think we’re going to have something that’s really, really special down there.’

Tune into Lucha Libre AAA every Saturday night on WWE’s YouTube channel.
