THE BOSTON CELTICS ARE OFFICIALLY FOR SALE
The Boston Celtics are officially up for sale.
On Monday, days after the Eastern Conference franchise won the 2024 NBA Finals, ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported that the team's majority ownership group is putting the team up for sale.
The team's ownership group, led by Wyc Grousbeck, has been running the team since 2002.
"BREAKING: The Boston Celtics majority ownership group — led by Wyc Grousbeck — is planning to make the franchise available for sale, sources tell ESPN. The investment group purchased the team in 2002. Massive development for one of sports’ most valuable properties," he reported on Monday afternoon.
It's fairly stunning news, considering how successful the Celtics have been. But NBA franchises have been selling for record-high prices, so perhaps the Boston ownership group believes they could be getting out at the right time.
The Celtics are one of the winningest franchises in NBA history, though they've only won two titles this century.
Still, with their extremely passionate and loyal fan base, the Celtics should land an extremely high price, if they end up being sold.
Sales of this magnitude can take a long time, so we could still be months - or years - away from this happening.
