ENGLAND FANS HILARIOUSLY INSIST GARETH SOUTHGATE 'CAN'T SURVIVE' AS THREE LIONS BOSS ON LIVE TV JUST AS JUDE BELLINGHAM SCORES EURO 2024 LIFESAVER AGAINST SLOVAKIA

  • The Three Lions looked set for defeat before Jude Bellingham's late strike

A pair of England fans were left hilariously red-faced on live TV after claiming Gareth Southgate 'can't survive' as Three Lions manager just as Jude Bellingham scored to rescue their Euro 2024 journey.

England were on the verge of being eliminated from the European Championship when Bellingham scored with an outrageous bicycle kick in the fifth minute of stoppage time.

The 21-year-old's goal rescued England's tournament hopes as Harry Kane sealed a 2-1 victory at the start of extra time to qualify for the quarter-finals where they will play Switzerland.

Supporters feared the worst as England's attempts to get back into proceedings continued to fail prior to Bellingham's sensational tournament-saving strike.

Defeat against Slovakia would have eclipsed England's embarrassing Euro 2016 exit when they were knocked out by Iceland and all-but ended Southgate's spell as Three Lions boss.

The 53-year-old is expected to leave England at the end of the tournament after eight years in charge of the national team and some fans fumed at his tactics on display against Slovakia.

A group of supporters watching along in one of England's many fan parks around the country were hilariously giving their verdict on the performance just seconds before the net bulged.

BBC presenter Joe Inwood covered the brilliant piece of television as he asked the pair of fans whether Southgate could 'survive' what looked set to be defeat.

The duo began answering, stating: 'No way he's not coming back after this. He even said it himself, if they don't win this tournament then he's out.'

As if scripted, Real Madrid star Bellingham made the last-ditch effort that rescued England's tournament hopes just at the exact moment fans feared the worst.

Supporters went wild inside the Brixton box park as Slovakia's ambitions were dashed and the answer on Southgate's future in charge was quickly reversed.

'That was perfect timing, I literally said they will score while we were talking to you. He [Southgate] can stay, he can stay,' said the fan who initially called for him to be replaced.

Reacting to the comedic exchange on social media, one supporter posting on X said: 'I think many of us were either thinking or saying the same thing at that time.'

Another comment added: 'Yeah but it was his tactics that had us playing diabolically for the first 90 minutes and previous 3 games so....'.
