BRONCOS 'QUIETLY' DID 'A LOT OF WORK' ON TOP QUARTERBACK PROSPECT

The Denver Broncos will have a new starting quarterback when the 2024 NFL season kicks off after cutting Russell Wilson earlier this offseason.

Earlier this week the team traded for former No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson, but he'll likely take on a reserve role with the team. With Jarrett Stidham, Wilson and Ben DiNucci in the quarterback room, the Broncos don't have a longterm starter on the roster.

That's a significant problem in a division that contains Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert. However the Broncos aren't just standing pat and heading into the season with their current quarterback room.

According to a report from Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, the Broncos "quietly" did some homework on former Auburn and Oregon quarterback Bo Nix.

"The Broncos quietly did a lot of work on Oregon QB Bo Nix—they had an hour-long Zoom with him on March 7, then sent a Sean Payton-led contingent to Eugene to work him out on March 18, per sources," Breer noted. "So interest is there. Fit, too. But not having a 2nd-rounder could complicate it."

Breer's report comes after former Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning suggested the team is interested in former Michigan star J.J. McCarthy.

During a recent media appearance on 104.3 The Fan, the Hall of Famer said the Broncos are "very interested" in McCarthy.
