DAN ORLOVSKY CLAIMS VIKINGS CAN'T KEEP JUSTIN JEFFERSON WITH QB SITUATION

The Minnesota Vikings need to find a way to get their franchise quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft. It isn't just a need, it's a necessity.

The Vikings have done everything they can to put themselves in a position to get that player. From moving on from Kirk Cousins to getting the 23rd overall pick in a March trade up from 42nd overall, the Vikings just need to make the move.

The one element about the quarterback position that continues to come up is the potential contract extension of wide receiver Justin Jefferson. People in the media seem to think he needs to know for certain who the next quarterback of the franchise is and that was the discussion between Dan Orlovsky and Marcus Spears on NFL Live.

Vikings need to secure QB of the future to keep Justin Jefferson

"Honestly, go to Justin Jefferson with the contract extension and him having no idea who their starting quarterback is. It might be Sam Darnold, but is that guy going to be enough Marcus (Spears)? I don't know if that's enough for him," said Orlovsky.

"I'm with you bro," said Spears. He's the most important piece when we talk about these quarterbacks."

"You might not love J.J. McCarthy, but you better love J.J. McCarthy and Justin Jefferson," continued Orlovsky. "In my opinion, the only way you can realistically approach Justin is for him to know who his quarterback is this year, and 2025, and 2026 and beyond. I think that's gotta be on Minnesota's mind as well. You're not going to keep Justin Jefferson with that giant question mark (at QB)."

First off, they are missing important context. The Vikings have had conversations with Jefferson about the quarterback position. They would be silly not to. Both sides also nearly reached an agreement to an extension back in September when there was no future set at the quarterback position.

On top of all of that, what receiver has ever demanded to know who his starting quarterback is going to be? Terry McLaurin didn't. Mike Evans, Diontae Johnson or D.K. Metcalf didn't either. This narrative just doesn't have any legs to stand on. Do they just want to stir up controversy so the Vikings trade Jefferson to a bigger market? That's what it feels like.

It's best to ignore this kind of talk from national pundits and just tune in for their all-22 play breakdowns.
