DETROIT LIONS, PENEI SEWELL AGREE TO MASSIVE 4-YEAR CONTRACT EXTENSION

The Detroit Lions aren't done giving out contract extensions to their key players ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft, as the team and franchise right tackle Penei Sewell have agreed to a monster four-year pact.

According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, Sewell is signing a four-year deal worth $112 million, with a whopping $85 million guaranteed. The extension makes Sewell the highest-paid offensive lineman in the league based on annual average ($28 million) and guaranteed money.

This is the second massive contract extension the Lions handed out on Wednesday, as the team also agreed to a four-year deal worth more than $120 million with wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. The $77 million guaranteed in that deal is the highest in NFL history for a wideout.

The extension is absolutely well-deserved for Sewell, who has become one of the best tackles in the NFL since being drafted in the first round of the 2021 draft. He's notched a pair of Pro Bowls in the past two years and was voted first-team All-Pro for the first time in his career in 2023.

The Lions continue to wisely lock down their franchise cornerstones. Perhaps we'll see quarterback Jared Goff get locked up next. Goff admitted last week that the two sides have talked.
