RICH EISEN CALLS OUT NFL GM

Chris Ballard and Rich Eisen laughed hysterically about the prospect of six quarterbacks going before the Indianapolis Colts made their first-round selection in the 2024 NFL Draft. They were so convinced that it wasn’t going to happen that Eisen asked Ballard to put on his punditry hat and make a prediction.

Ballard’s not in the quarterback market, obviously having taken care of that prospect with the selection of Anthony Richardson a season prior. But that doesn’t mean the Colts general manager didn’t have his eye on the quarterback market. In fact, he asked Eisen if 5 or 6 quarterbacks could go before the Colts picked at No. 15 overall, pushing back someone the Colts didn’t think they’d probably be able to land in Laiatu Latu.

“That would be awesome,” Ballard told Eisen about a week ago. “If you get that done, I’m on your show whenever you want me.”

Well, Ballard better hold up his end of the bargain. Eisen didn’t forget. He pleaded to the camera when the Colts were on the clock Thursday. While the broadcast may have been up in the Colts’ facility, they were probably busy phoning a UCLA edge rusher.

“So, the Colts are now on the clock, and I just want to say this, certainly if he’s out there listening,” Eisen said, “Chris Ballard, the general manager of the Indianapolis Colts, was on The Rich Eisen Show last Friday. And I asked him, ‘How many quarterbacks do you think will start this draft?’ knowing that he’s not in the quarterback game, obviously. And he said that he thinks three, but if it’s four, he would love it.

“He told me that if I could get—as if I had anything to do with it—six quarterbacks taken before he’s on the clock 15th overall, he said, ‘I will come on your show whenever you want.’ Chris, let’s talk. Maybe Monday? Maybe Tuesday? What are you up to, Chris? ’cause look how many quarterbacks are off the board—six.'”

Hopefully, Ballard will hold up his end of the bargain. Eisen stuck to his hosting duties, but who knows, maybe his sheer charisma willed those six quarterbacks selected in the top 12 into existence. How else do you explain Michael Penix Jr. landing with the Falcons or Bo Nix going higher than expected to Denver?

Eisen likely won’t question it, and Ballard, potentially with Laitu in tow, might even be pleased to keep appearing on The Rich Eisen Show.
