KIMI ANTONELLI CRASHES JUST 10 MINUTES INTO FIRST FP1 RUN FOR MERCEDES IN MONZA

Kimi Antonelli’s first taste of life in F1 did not go as planned after he crashed just 10 minutes into his first FP1 session.

The Italian borrowed George Russell’s car for the opening session in front of his home crowd but having briefly topped the times, he then put it in the wall at Parabolica.

Much focus was put on the young Italian with his accession to the full-time seat for 2025 expected to be confirmed in the near future but his first taste of an F1 car during an official session began in disaster when he smashed the W15 into the wall.

The 18-year-old appeared to go in with too much speed into Parabolica and lost control of the car, spinning into the wall and bringing out the red flag.

Team boss Toto Wolff quickly took to the radio to reassure Antonelli that it was “all good” but it is regardless a disappointment for both team and driver.

The Italian was driving with an updated floor but Mercedes quickly confirmed that they had sufficient spares for it not to have an immediate impact on the weekend.

Antonelli had driven the W13 during a TPC test at Silverstone but Monza was the recently turned 18-year-old’s first drive in this year’s machinery.
