TEXAS COACH EXPLAINS ARCH MANNING DECISION
Arch Manning has not had a lot of chances to play since signing with the Texas Longhorns last year, but it sounds like head coach Steve Sarkisian made a conscious decision to get the former five-star prospect a lot of snaps during the team’s spring game on Saturday.
Returning starting quarterback Quinn Ewers played just two drives on Saturday afternoon before he was pulled from the game in favor of Arch Manning, who played the majority of the game in his place. After the game, Steve Sarkisian revealed that this was an intentional plan to get Manning some much-needed reps given that he hasn’t played live-action football in quite some time.
“That was totally the plan for Quinn,” Sarkisian said after the game according to On3. “That’s why Quinn and Arch were on the same team. I wanted Arch to be able to just go play football. He hadn’t really played in a year.”
Manning certainly made the most of the opportunity, completing 19 of his 25 passes for 355 yards and three touchdowns, two of which were 75-yard bombs.
It was easy to see why Manning has been considered one of the top quarterback prospects in the nation for the past few years.
